Plumas/Tahoe/El Dorado National Forest - June 2006

OK, so we traveled 714 miles in 5 days and had a pretty good trip. We started out in Plumas National forrest, but the places we looked at were pretty much snowed in. Next we tried for Packer Lake in Tahoe National Forest, again ...still snow up high and all of the forest service roads closed.. So the first night we kicked at at a campground called Plum Road. The next day we tried to find something on the Yuba River. Again nothing but closed gates. We then said fuck it and headed for El Dorado, via 89 along Lake Tahoe. Along the way we checked out the trail head to Indian Springs OHV Trail. Another month and I think it will make a great trip. Still a lot of water and Winter damage. Really want to check out Eagle Lake...We explored some logging roads and apparently open forest service roads...nothin' but dead ends and closed gates...grrr. With two expedition style nights and 3 days on the road, in the car...frustration was setting in. So we headed to known territory to relax, fish and play in the boat. Union Valley reservoir has some primitive sites and beautiful views; thankfully nice and deserted after the Memorial frenzy.
